We just had our third child and are heading out on our first trip as a family of 5. Every time we get ready to leave on a trip, I find myself scrambling to remember everything we need.
So I decided to finally make a baby packing list that I can refer to each time we need to pack for a trip. I also have a toddler packing list if that applies to you!
This packing checklist can be used anytime you stay away from home, whether you are visiting family, going on vacation, on a road trip, flying, or traveling for another reason.
My travel packing list for baby will save you time, help you avoid unnecessary stress/overthinking, and ensure you have everything you need for your little sweetie. 🙂

Travel Packing List for Baby
Clothing – Baby Packing List
I recommend packing by outfit. I usually pack 6-7 outfits for a 1-2 week trip, as long as we will have access to laundry. Bonus if you can choose outfits that can be mixed & matched so you can switch things up without overpacking. If you won’t have access to laundry, I would pack one outfit per day + 3-4 extra.
I usually pack all of my kids’ clothes in one bag or suitcase and separate everyone’s clothes with clear packing cubes. These vacuum-storage bags can save a lot of space if you need to pack bulky coats or diapers.
- Tops – onesies, long sleeves, short sleeves, tank tops
- Dresses/rompers/overalls
- Bottoms – pants and/or shorts
- Pajamas/Sleepers
- Socks
- Jackets/Sweatshirts– amount depends on destination/weather
- Booties/Shoes – if your baby is walking or if they complete the outfit
- Hair Accessories
Weather/Destination Dependent Items
- Sun Hat
- Baby sunglasses
- Swimwear – swimsuits, rashguards, water shoes
- Swim diapers
- Puddle Jumper/Floaties
- Portable Fan/Stroller Fan
- Rain Gear
- Cold Weather Gear – hats, gloves, winter coat/bunting
Toiletries – Baby Packing List
- Baby Soap

- Baby Lotion
- Sunscreen – if your baby is 6 months or older
- Insect Repellent – if you use it
- Nail Clippers
- Baby Tylenol/other medications
- Thermometer
- Travel First Aid Kit – we bring this one
- Face/Hand Wipes
- Laundry Detergent/Pods – if you plan to do laundry and these aren’t provided
Feeding – Baby Packing List
- Bottles – I usually only bring 1-2 bottles, but you may want a couple more if you’re exclusively bottle-feeding
- Formula/Water
- Portable Bottle Warmer – if you’re in a pinch on the go, you can get hot water at most coffee shops to warm your bottle; consider bringing a thermos to put hot water in
- Travel drying rack/bottle brush set – we use this one
- Dish soap – these travel-size soaps are convenient to take on the go.
- Sterilizer Bags – add water and pop one of these bags in the microwave to sterilize bottles, pump parts, pacis, etc.
- Quick Clean Wipes – these are good for cleaning high chairs/pump parts/pacifiers/etc. if you don’t have access to water
- Burp Cloths
- Breast Pump/Pump Parts – I pack all of my pumping supplies and bottles in this bag
- Cooler Bag – I have this insulated cooler bag and use these ice packs
- Nursing Cover – I love this one if I want more coverage in public + it doubles as a car seat cover
- Breast milk bags/storage bottles – if needed
- Hand Wipes/Sanitizer
If your baby is eating solids:
- Easy-to-Wipe Bib – I like these roll-up bibs for travel
- Spoon/Utensils – I keep this one in our diaper bag
- Pouch Covers – pouches are so convenient for on-the-go and these genius toppers help eliminate spills
- Sippy Cup/Straw Cup
- Snack Cup – these bowls help keep snacks from getting dumped
- Face/Hand Wipes
- Portable High Chair – we have this cloth seat harness that rolls up super small and this folding chair that is great for older babies/toddlers
Sleep – Baby Packing List
- Portable Crib/Pack-n-Play or Bassinet
- We use the Chicco LullaGo Portable Bassinet at home and when traveling with our newborns
- We use the Baby Bjorn travel crib once our babies outgrow the bassinet
- Check to see if your accommodations offer a pack-n-play or crib if you don’t want to bring your own
- Sheets – I always bring 1-2 sets of sheets for the bassinet/crib even if I am using a hotel or rental pack-n-play
- Portable Sound Machine – we use this one at home and for travel
- Monitor – grab all the parts (camera, monitor screen, chargers, etc.)
- Owlet Sock – if you use one
- Blackout Options – travel blackout curtains, blackout crib cover, or blackout tent (I have only used the crib cover, but many people swear by the blackout curtains and tents)
- Lovey/pacifiers – if your baby uses them
- Sleepsack or swaddles – I usually bring 2-3
- Night light – can be nice if your baby wakes up in the night or you need to pump or change a diaper, etc.
- I use this touch light for night feedings/diaper changes
Diapers – Baby Packing List
- Diapers – I bring 6-7 diapers x each day of vacation (8-10 during the newborn stage)
- Think about how often your baby typically gets changed during the day and then add a couple more to that number
- You can buy more diapers when you get to your destination if you don’t want to pack that many
- Wipes – I bring 2-3 packs for a week trip because we use them for diaper changes, cleaning up messes on the go, wiping hands/faces, etc.
- Diaper Cream
- Portable Changing Pad – we keep this one in our car and use it when we travel
- Diaper Smell Sacks – these sacks come in very handy when you don’t want a dirty diaper smelling up the place in hotel rooms, in the car, staying at someone’s house, etc.
- Night Diapers
My favorite diapers! We have a Hello Bello subscription box, and I have so much fun choosing from adorable pattern options each time it ships. You can pause, delay, or cancel your subscription at any time. Click here to check it out. Use the code REGANP for $15 off your first box.
Diaper Bag – Baby Packing List
These are things you’ll want to have easy access to while traveling or out and about.
- Diapers – enough to get you through the day + a couple extra
- Wipes – I keep a pack in the changing pad and an extra in the diaper bag
- Change of clothes – possibly 2 sets if your little one spits up a lot or has frequent blowouts 🙂
- Breastmilk or formula
- Bottles – if bottle-feeding
- Portable bottle warmer – if you use one
- Swaddle Blanket – so many uses for these, I always keep one in my diaper bag
- Nursing Cover – if you use one
- Snacks – for older babies
- A few of our favorite (easy) on-the-go snacks for babies: Pouches, baby food, Bamba peanut butter puffs, bananas, yogurt melts, puffs, berries, cut grapes
- Water bottle/sippy cup – if old enough
- A couple of small toys/teethers – if old enough
- Sanitizing wipes
- Face/hand wet wipes and/or hand sanitizer
- Pacifier + pacifier clip (if using)
- Wet bag (wet bags come in handy for many reasons) – or you can use a grocery sack or Ziplock bag
- Birth Certificate or Passport (if needed for travel)
Backpack diaper bags are nice for travel because they hold a lot and keep you hands-free.
Entertainment – Baby Packing List
Depending on the age of your baby, you may not need to worry about entertainment. But here are some ideas to keep older babies entertained:
- Teethers
- Books
- Crinkle books/toys
- Fidget toys
- Carseat toy bar
- Rattles
- Play Mat
- Travel activity gym
Large Items – Baby Packing List
- Car seat
- Car seat cover – I LOVE this car seat cabana – it protects your baby from the sun, bugs, and the wind, and it’s nice if you are somewhere crowded and don’t want people touching your baby/being in their face – it’s UppaBaby brand, but fits perfectly on my Chicco car seat & should fit most infant seats
- Car seat bag – a padded car seat bag is great for carrying, protecting your car seat, and keeping it clean when flying
- Stroller
- Stroller bag – nice to use for airplane travel if your stroller will be underneath the plane or gate-checked
- Baby Carrier – I love the Boppy wrap carrier for the newborn days and use an Ergobaby carrier for my babies when they get bigger
- Portable Baby Bath – we use this inflatable duck tub – my toddlers love playing in it too!
