1. New Buffalo Beach
This classic Lake Michigan shoreline is the place for sunset shots, beach vibes, and magical horizon photos with calm water or crashing waves.
For the prettiest photos, head down to the water’s edge, frame the iconic lighthouse behind you, snap a shot from the elevated boardwalk at golden hour, or wander into the soft beach grass for that effortless coastal Michigan look



2. Michigan Mercantile Building/ Whittaker Street Shops
This historic building in downtown New Buffalo has a lot of character and charm. The brick exterior and cute storefronts make it a great spot for casual downtown photos, especially if you’re walking around shopping or grabbing coffee nearby.
Browse the local shops, check out the farm market in the back, and snap photos against the beautiful murals and storefronts.



3. Oselka Marina
Oselka Marina is fun to walk around and is a great spot to snap a few photos.
The rows of boats and calm water create a beautiful backdrop, especially early in the morning or around sunset.

4. Stray Dog
The Stray Dog is one of the most popular restaurants in New Buffalo, and for good reason. The rooftop patio offers great views of the harbor, and the restaurant’s interior is equally aesthetic.

Colorful cones and pastel parlors instantly boost your feed. Snap a picture with your treat next to sandy beaches or vibrant murals.



6. Sonny D’s Restaurant & Speakeasy
Sonny D’s has a cozy, big-Italian-family vibe. “Ida’s Porch”, the outdoor patio, is a great place for summer dining or drinks with friends. Don’t miss the unique speakeasy in the lower level.

7. Shore
The exterior of Shore can serve as a stunning backdrop for photos, but don’t skip going inside to browse this cute local shop, which is now called “Book-Shore” as of spring 2026, featuring books on travel, design, music, art, and lifestyle.

8. Beer Church Brewing Co
Beer Church Brewing Co. is one of the most unique spots in the area. The brewery is located in a converted church, so the tall ceilings, stained glass, and rustic interior make for some really cool photos.
There is ample outdoor seating in the warmer months and igloo experiences offered in the winter.

9. Issa Vibe Cafe
Issa Vibe Cafe is bright, cheerful, and exactly what the name suggests — a vibe. Their drinks and sandwiches are aesthetic and perfect for a quick photo before you dig in.

10. New Buffalo Art Gallery
If you enjoy art, the New Buffalo Art Gallery is worth stopping into. And don’t miss the simple yet iconic New Buffalo mural on the exterior.

11. Galien River County Park
Galien River County Park is one of the prettiest nature spots near New Buffalo.
The long boardwalk through the marsh is incredibly photogenic, and the canopy tower offers beautiful views of the trees and wetlands.


12. Post Boy
Post Boy has a fun, modern vibe with great drinks and a lively atmosphere. It’s a great place to capture a fun night out with friends, whether you’re dining indoors or out.

14. Washington Park Beach & Lighthouse
Just a short 15-20 minute drive from New Buffalo, the lighthouse at Washington Park Beach is a classic Lake Michigan photo spot.
Walk out on the pier for great lighthouse shots with the lake behind it.

Round Barn Winery is a beautiful place to visit and even better for photos.
The vineyard views, rustic barns, and outdoor seating areas make it easy to capture the relaxed wine country feel of the area.

16. Warren Dunes State Park
Rolling sand dunes, tall grasses, and sweeping lakeshore views offer epic outdoor shots — great for hiking, sunsets, beach days, and wide panoramas.


17. Indiana Dunes National/State Park
Just west of New Buffalo, these expansive dunes and scenic trails are highly photogenic — from dune climbs to riverwalk overlooks and tall prairie grass.


18. Friendship Botanic Garden
Friendship Botanic Gardens is full of walking paths, flowers, and peaceful garden spaces.
In the spring and summer, especially, it’s a great place to capture colorful nature photos.

19. Sandy Acres Farm
Sandy Acres Farm is a charming local farm that feels like stepping into the countryside.
Depending on the season, you can snap photos with flowers, farm animals, or wide open fields that make great photo backdrops. And of course, don’t miss a photo op with the majestic Clydesdales.


20. Journeyman’s Distillery
Located in nearby Three Oaks, Journeyman Distillery is known for its historic building and cool industrial vibe.
The brick walls, whiskey barrels, and craft cocktails make for some great photos.


21. Century Progress Homes
Located inside Indiana Dunes National Park, the Century of Progress Homes are colorful historic houses originally built for the 1933 Chicago World’s Fair.
Their unique architecture makes them a really fun and unexpected photo stop.

One of the things I love about New Buffalo is that you don’t have to search very hard to find beautiful spots!
Between the lake views, charming downtown, and nearby nature areas, there are photo opportunities around almost every corner.
Whether you’re here for a beach weekend, wine tasting, or exploring Harbor Country, you’ll definitely leave with plenty of photos (and probably a few new favorite spots too).
